The Iowa Finance Authority Board of Directors announced Wednesday that they have approved more than $6.2 million in grants to 25 local housing trust funds. The Local Housing Trust Fund program grants will be used to support affordable housing initiatives, assisting more than 2,325 Iowa families. The Region XII Council of Governments will be receiving a $235,872 grant to assist families in Audubon, Carroll, Crawford, Greene, Guthrie and Sac Counties. The money can be used to preserve aging housing through low-interest loans and grants, subsidize local down payment assistance programs, finance construction of new single-family housing for low-income Iowans as well as support housing for people with disabilities and homeless assistance programs. Since its inception in 2003, the State Housing Trust Fund has provided $56.4 million in affordable housing assistance and leveraged another $153.2 million in other funds.
