One School One Book Reading Program Expands To Include Two More Districts

A reading program titled One School One Book (OSOB) is taking a little different direction this year. The Audubon, Coon Rapids-Bayard and Exira-Elk Horn Kimballton school districts will be teaming up for the program now being called, “3 Schools 2-gether, 1 Book” beginning next Monday, September 12. They will be reading “The One and Only Ivan” by Katherine Applegate. The book tells the story of the power of unexpected friendships and is based on the true story of a gorilla named Ivan that lived in a solitary shopping mall enclosure. The book is told from the point-of-view of Ivan. Audubon OSOB Committee member, Nicki Olsen, says, “We are excited for this reading adventure that we are sharing with the Coon Rapids-Bayard and the Exira-Elk Horn Kimballton school districts.” She continues, “The opportunity to have so many families reading together along with community members is a great opportunity for all involved.” The OSOB program is sponsored by Read to Them, a non-profit group based out of Richmond, Va. that promotes family literacy.
