An accident north of Carroll on Highway 71 claimed the life of one person and critically injured two others yesterday (Monday) afternoon. The accident, which occurred at approximately 2 p.m., is currently under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, with the assistance of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. The accident involved north and southbound cars, which collided head-on in the northbound lane on Highway 71 near Agri-bolt. The Carroll County Fire Department was called to the scene to extricate the three victims via mechanical means from the vehicles. Carroll County Sheriff, Ken Pingrey, reports one person died in the accident while two others were air-lifted to a hospital in Des Moines. The Iowa State Patrol, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Carroll Fire Department were assisted at the scene by the Carroll Police Department, Carroll County Emergency Medical Services and the Breda Fire Department. Authorities were at the location for approximately two hours. We will bring you more details when the official report becomes available.
