The Sac County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol and Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement are investigating a four-vehicle accident which claimed the life of one woman and sent five others to the hospital. At approximately 8:24 a.m. about one and a quarter miles west of Lake View on Saturday, Dec. 24, a semi-tractor trailer was traveling west on Highway 175 and attempted to pass a vehicle to its front. Thick fog at the time reduced visibility to near zero, and the semi-driver did not see a pick-up travelling west. The semi collided head-on with the truck, and a car behind the truck rear-ended the pick-up. One woman in the truck was pronounced dead at the scene and the truck driver, two occupants from the car, the semi driver and a passenger were all transported to Loring Hospital in Sac City. Two of those patients were subsequently transported to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City with critical injuries. Names of those involved are being withheld pending notification of family. The Lake View Police, Lake View Fire, Wall Lake Fire and Lake View Emergency Medical Services all assisted at the scene.
