Miller Recommends Changes In Wake Of Yahoo Security Breach

On Thursday, Yahoo publicly disclosed the massive cybersecurity breach of more than 500 million user accounts that occurred in late 2014, and individuals with Yahoo accounts may have had their information leaked. Yahoo suggests a “state-sponsored actor” is responsible for the intrusion which resulted in the compromised security of names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, hashed passwords and security questions and answers to accounts. As a result of this announcement, Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller suggests Iowans with Yahoo accounts to review their other accounts to make sure that any duplicate security information is changed to prevent another security failure. Miller recommends that internet users create a password that is unique to each account and change it periodically. He suggests not using plain words, common names or names of family members or pet names in passwords as they may weaken the online security of those accounts. The easiest way to keep track of all your passwords, recommends Miller, is to use a secure password manager to store your more complex passwords
