MidWest BioAg & Carroll Co. Conservation to showcase new Biological Farming practices

With the official start of spring less than one week away farmers are already headed out into the fields, but before those first seeds are planted Midwest BioAg would like to start a conversation about the latest sciences behind current farming practices. In conjunction with Carroll County Conservation, Presenter Bryce Irlbeck and others will talk about how farmers can increase their yields while saving money and also practice good land stewardship. Carroll County Naturalist Matt Wetrich says he recently visited Irlbeck’s farm where those practices are put into use, and says he was enthused by what he saw.

With high profile stories in 2015 like last year’s algae bloom on Swan Lake which caused a fish kill and the water quality lawsuit filed by the Des Moines Water Works against Sac, Calhoun, and Buena Vista counties a discussion on nutrient and nitrogen efficiency, cover crops, soil maintenance, and a variety of other environmental practices are all timely topics.

The free program begins at 10:00 am this Thursday morning, March 17, at the Conservation Education Center at Swan Lake. Presenters include Irlbeck, Tim Chitwood, and Bob Yanda all of Midwest BioAg. Any landowner, farmer, or those just interested in learning about the latest in farming practices is welcome to attend.
