The community of Jefferson will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower with special activities on Sunday, Oct. 16, at Bell Tower Plaza. In preparation for this celebration, the community began working on submitting special moments and memories of the tower this past summer. At the end of September, poet and Jefferson alum, David Williamson, met with 17 residents to work collaboratively through the process of creating a community poem. The finished piece will be read for the first time at the anniversary celebration. Beginning at 2 p.m., bands and choirs will be joined by handbell music, there will be a re-enactment of the tower’s first dedication and everyone is invited to take a free ride to the top of the tower.
