Libertarian Candidate For Iowa Senate, Serianni, Says He Is Working In Middle Ground

Nick Serianni is running against incumbent, Republican Mark Segebart, for the District six Iowa Senate seat, and says that as a Libertarian, he and his party hold a more moderate stance.

Serianni said he has always been politically active. He decided now was the time to get involved to share his positions and opinions because he was finally old enough to hold a seat at 27, and Segebart was running unopposed. He said he believes every candidate should have opposition and the public should have a choice. Serianni has been a resident of Buena Vista County since he was five years old, graduating from Storm Lake High School. He says that his roots in the rural areas have allowed him to develop an understanding and opinion on the unique issues these areas face. His home county, Buena Vista, is one of the three counties involved in the lawsuit brought by the Des Moines Water Works. This is an issue, that he says, is very broad and it will take a lot of time to see who the real culprit is in this situation.

He says the proposal to use a portion of sales tax dollars is not necessarily the answer to the problem.

Serianni says that some of the questions brought up at the Carroll Chamber forum really got him thinking about the responsibility of the taxpayers. He says that, for example, the question of affordable housing is not necessarily a question for the legislators, but one that needs to be taken up by the free market. He says the idea that our government should be responsible for these items is a part of what is wrong with our system.
