Lake City Pool awarded $100,000 grant for water slide & other features

Plans to install more features at the Lake City Pool are moving forward faster than expected. Earlier this year the city was notified of an awarded $100,000 grant from the Vision Iowa/Community Attraction and Tourism Board. The grant, City Clerk Lee Vogt  says, will function like a reimbursement.

Along with the grant the city plans to match those funds, and coupled with last year’s costs savings, they will be able to install a looping swim slide, night lighting, retractable bleachers, and a feature wall which lists donors to the project for a little over $200,000. Vogt says it wouldn’t be possible without the involvement of some very hard working individuals.

The city will hold a bid letting for the slide and night lighting later this week. Due to timeline limitations, however, the new features may not be installed prior to opening day which is planned during Memorial Day weekend. Vogt says if that’s the case the pool may have to close for a few days during the summer while crews install the water slide, but pool goers will more than likely find it worth the wait.
