Kuemper Board Unanimously Supports ‘Yes’ Vote On Stadium Referendum

Chairman of the Kuemper Catholic School System Board of Education, Brad Nichols, announced a unanimous vote in support of the Carroll Stadium construction project was made at Wednesday night’s meeting. “We are proud to be part of this historic collaboration between our schools,” Nichols said. “Our common commitment to our children will make this a success.” The directors say their formal announcement supporting the Carroll Community School District’s public vote to be held on Feb. 7, 2017 encourages all Kuemper constituents to vote ‘yes’ for this referendum. Kuemper President, John Steffes, said the decades-long sharing of the stadium between the schools has been a success story and a ‘yes’ vote will make this a more diverse, multi-use complex. “We need to fully support the Feb. 7 vote,” Steffes said, “and our board has clearly sent that message. This project is important for all the youth of the area.” He went on to say an upgrade to the facility is long overdue and approval of this project is in the best interest of Kuemper and the entire community. The estimated $6.2 million reconstruction of the Carroll Athletic Stadium on Grant Road has proposed funding of approximately $5 million from bonds levied against the future revenue gained from a 67 cents per $1,000 home valuation Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL). This tax levy will generate an estimated $629,000 each year to pay off the stadium debt.
