King’s Democratic Opponent Calls Confederate Flag A “Gross Insensitivity”

The backlash against Iowa Rep. Steve King continues as the Iowa-Nebraska NAACP comes forward to label his actions “anti-Iowa” and his Facebook page fills with comments after a news account points out the presence of a Confederate flag on the corner of his desk in Washinton, D.C. King’s Democratic opponent in the upcoming general election, Kim Weaver, has also released a statement saying she is “disgusted by his gross insensitivity to the millions of Americans for whom that flag is a symbol of racism and division.” Weaver adds, she joins these individuals in their call to have King remove the flag from his office immediately. In the wake of the tragedies in Baton Rouge, Falcon Heights and Dallas, she says she is confused by his videotaped statement that there is evil in this world and it deploys itself sometimes in the slightest inspiration. Weaver pointed out while he was recording that statement, King wore a police emblem on his tie as a show of support. That emblem on his tie, she said, is a symbol. So is the flag on his desk. “Take it down.”
