King Supports Cruz And RFS

Congressman Steve King has endorsed Texas Senator Ted Cruz for the GOP Presidential nomination, causing many to ask Iowa’s fourth-district representative about his commitment to the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS). The RFS was adopted by Congress in 2005 and amended in 2007, and is designed to set biofuels levels for blend volumes, which was to build to 36 billion gallons by 2022. Cruz’ plan is to phase down the RFS over five years, to direct the EPA to eliminate the 10 percent blend wall, direct the Justice Department to enforce anti-trust acts for market access and to end the petroleum subsidies.

King will continue to support the RFS, having done so from before the beginning. But he says there is a strong effort for repeal of the standards.

They have racked up about 180 signatures that oppose the RFS and there are more out there, King said, I would caution people that the petroleum industry has the dream team lobby in Washington, D.C. They can shift support before anyone knows what is going on. King travels around the district to try to keep his finger on the pulse of what is going on out there.

King added that it looks to him like there were a few people who didn’t get their way with the Iowa Caucus and they are a little frustrated. He says they haven’t raised the issue with him personally, but if they don’t talk to him, it is hard for him to listen.
