Jefferson Seeking Entrepreneurs For Open 4 Business Competition

Have you been toying with the idea of opening your own business? Do you have a great idea and want to bring it to the people of Jefferson? Or maybe you are expanding services or adding a new product line. Jefferson Matters: Main Street is searching for entrepreneurs who could use $28,000 to launch or grow their business in the downtown district. In its second year, the Open 4 Business contest offers this opportunity to businesses located within the state-designated Main Street District. To apply, the business must complete the application and present a business pitch to a panel of judges. If they are selected, a 25 percent match of the grant funds administered by the Iowa Economic Development Authority is required. The Business Improvement Committee for Jefferson Main Street is requesting that interested parties notify them of their intent to apply by May 11. If more than one business plans to compete, local pitches will be made in late May. The winner will then represent Jefferson at the sub-state level taking place June 13 through the 16th. Sub-state winners will receive $8,000 and advance to the state competition in Mason City on Aug. 2, where the winner will be awarded $20,000. Details on how to get more information on the Open 4 Business competition by contacting Peg Raney at the Main Street Office, by email at director@jeffersonmatters.org or on the website at www.jeffersonmatters.org.
