Jefferson Man Attempts To Stop Disconnect; Goes Directly To Jail

A Jefferson resident took special measures to stop city public works employees from shutting off his water service, and ended up in jail as a result. Forty-four-year-old Ryan James Brown was taken into custody at approximately 1:28 p.m. Wednesday afternoon when public works employees arrived at his home at 1006 North Walnut Street to disconnect service and found Brown had damaged the curb shut off. The Jefferson Police Department was notified and Brown was charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a serious misdemeanor. There is an estimated $500 in damage to the shut off valve.
