The Jefferson Fire Department and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office came to the aid of a stranded driver and his cargo in yesterday’s (Thursday’s) extreme heat. At approximately 10:55 a.m., a semi tractor-trailer experienced some mechanical issues at the intersection of Highway 30 and Highway 4 in Jefferson. The semi was hauling live hogs, who had become stressed from the extreme heat and humidity. The local authorities provided a cool wet down for the animals until the truck was repaired and became operational again. The National Weather Service says the heat index reached 103 degrees on Thursday afternoon.
