ISU Selected As Peace Corps Training Site

The Peace Corps Program has selected Iowa State University as a training site to help students prepare for service in other countries. The program, which is offered at 50 universities and colleges throughout the United States, is the only one offered in the state of Iowa. Gail Nonnecke, coordinator for the program on campus, says students from all majors are encouraged to participate for qualification to serve in the Peace Corps and in moving them closer to their goal of helping students become global citizens. Each school is given the freedom to design their program based on specific criteria that reflects the Peace Corps’ grassroots, integrated approach. A typical Peace Corps Prep Program consists of two years of coursework with a focus on international development, internships, foreign language studies and volunteer experience related to Peace Corps projects.
