ISU Design Lab To Develop Carroll Recreation Master Plan

As the Carroll Stadium Committee works on exploring options available for an update to the track and field on Grant Road, the Carroll Athletic Association and the City of Carroll are working with a state university to wrap that in with Graham Park, the Rec Center, the Aquatic Center, DMACC and Merchants Park Stadium into a recreation destination. President of the Athletic Association, Barry Bruner, said they are excited to learn more about the possibilities.

The agreement with the Iowa State University Community Design Lab is for the development of a master plan on how to unify this area into a district, which Bruner said affords Carroll the opportunity to develop something other communities just can’t offer.

Carroll Rec Center Recreation Superintendent, McKenzie Kiger, said it is great to be able to draw in people from out of town to enjoy something like this, but it would be a huge draw and convenience for area residents as well.

The Kuemper Catholic School System, Carroll Community School District and Des Moines Area Community College have all formally supported the ISU Design Lab plan with $3,000 each. The balance of the contract costs of $19,875 will be paid by the City of Carroll.
