Iowa Student Straw Poll Names Trump As Winner

Secretary of State, Paul Pate’s, Iowa Youth Straw Poll was a resounding success, recording the votes of more than 57,000 students from over 250 schools across the state. “I think it was a great opportunity for them to see first-hand how the process works,” Pate said. “It also gives them a running start for the next election cycle and also receive a little tutoring at the same time, so they will have a good base of knowledge for Iowa’s election’s process. Pate added he hopes this “fired them up” and will spur them to encourage others to get out and vote. The results, as of 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, had Donald Trump winning over Hillary Clinton by 46 to 36 percent, with Gary Johnson coming in with 7 percent of the student votes. Incumbent Republican Senator Charles Grassley had a remarkable showing with a 62 percent win over Patty Judge’s 25 percent and in the U.S. House District four race, incumbent Republican Steve King ended the day with 75 percent of the vote to Democratic candidate Kim Weaver’s 25 percent.
