Iowa State Fairgoers Give Trump, Grassley And Fair Food The Thumbs Up

During the first five days of the Iowa State Fair, more than 2,800 fairgoers have taken part in the Secretary of State’s Straw Poll. So far, the results are showing that Donald Trump is leading Hillary Clinton at 49 percent to 35 percent. And, in the U.S. Senate race, incumbent Charles Grassley has gathered 59 percent of the respondent’s votes while his Democratic challenger, Patty Judge, has recorded 36 percent. Secretary of State, Paul Pate, says they have also seen a large influx of Iowans who have registered to vote while visiting the booth, including many who are registering for the first time. The Straw Poll, however, doesn’t just focus on politics. Fair attendees are also asked to rank their favorite attractions and favorite fair foods, which ironically ranked as the number one attraction at 37 percent with the majority of fairgoers saying Iowa-raised meats and poultry are their foods of choice. The polls are conducted on iPads located in the Iowa Secretary of State’s booth inside the Varied Industries Building.
