Iowa Finances In Excellent Condition According To State Treasurer Fitzgerald

Democratic Iowa State Treasurer, Michael Fitzgerald, was in Carroll on Wednesday, and while he was here, he discussed the strong fiscal position of our state. Other states across the nation have struggled with paying off their debts, and Fitzgerald highlights that Iowa’s debt is manageable.

Fitzgerald is pleased with Iowa’s financial status. That 30 billion dollars seems large, but it is a bit misleading he says.

Fitzgerald points out the best way to gauge a state’s financial standing is to look at its credit score.

A triple-A rating is the highest ranking a state can receive. California has the largest debt in the nation at $778 billion in debt. Wyoming has the least at slightly below $10 million.
