Iowa DNR Offers Both In-Person And Online Hunter Education Courses

Fall is closer than most of us are willing to admit and that means hunting season is rapidly approaching. Iowa law requires all hunters born after Jan. 1, 1972 to complete and pass a hunter education course in order to purchase a license in the state. Hunters as young as 11 years old can enroll in the course, but their license will not be valid until the turn 12. Jeff Barnes, a recreational safety officer for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), explained the purpose of these hunter safety courses.

For those interested in learning but don’t have any experience hunting, Barnes says you can look ahead to see when classes are available in your area.

Those who still need to take the course can search and sign up for the classes online at the DNR website. The size of the class, the number of seats remaining, and location of the classes can all be found on the webpage. The DNR is also offering an online option for adults who may find it difficult to make it to a physical classroom. The class covers all of the same material as the class setting and can be completed entirely from the comfort of your home. If interested in signing up for the online course or to see locations and dates of nearby classes, follow the link included with this story on our website.
