Instructor & Coach Tassell’s contract with CCSD to end in June

On Thursday night the Carroll Community School Board accepted and approved the resignation of physical education instructor and girls’ basketball and volleyball Coach Tyler Tassell. During a twenty minute closed session the board discussed Tassell’s decision which was delivered in a brief letter dated March 2, 2016. Specific reasons behind his resignation were not disclosed, but Tassell has been on administrative leave since late December attributed to personal matters at home.

In the written separation agreement Tassell’s work duties will now cease, but he will continue to receive pay and benefits under the current 2015-2016 contract which ends June 30, 2016. Also listed in stipulations under the mutual agreement are that the district agrees, “the circumstances leading to Tassell’s resignation do not require a complaint to be filed with the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners and the District will take no action to file such a complaint,” also that Tassell, “releases any and all claims that he may have against the District.”

In his resignation letter Tassell, who has been employed at CCSD for four years, did express his appreciation for the opportunities offered to him by the district, and that he had especially enjoyed working with students and fellow teachers. Following the meeting on Thursday, when asked for comment, CCSD Board President Duane Horsley said, “The Board does wish Mr. Tassell the best for his future. We really do.”
