IFBF Helping Retiring Farmers Transition Family Farms

In the next five to 10 years, it is estimated that nearly 30 percent of Iowa farmers will be retiring. However, nearly one third of these families has no plan in place to assure a successful transition of the farming operation. The Iowa Farm Bureau Federation is working to change that by bringing back their highly successful “Take Root” farm transition workshops. For this area, the closest two-workshop series will be taking place in Perry on Tuesday, July 19 and Monday, Aug. 2. The workshops are free for IFBF members and $55 for non-member families. During the initial workshop, families will learn how to start a conversation about a transition plan. In the second workshop, they will interact with a panel of business experts who will provide insight on estate, tax and financial planning as well as leases, tenant qualities and beginning farmer opportunities.
