ICGA Holds Annual Summit To Discuss Policy For Coming Year

The Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) held their Annual Grassroots Summit last week to discuss policies and debate new resolutions regarding the direction the organization will be heading. Several prominent public figures were in attendance at the summit, including: Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Bill Northey, Lieutenant Governor, Kim Reynolds and U.S. Congressman, Rod Blum. The top issues deliberated at the event were increasing water quality funding to support Iowa’s Nutrient Reduction Strategy, increasing support for Iowa State University’s Experiment Station and ensuring ethanol production remains a vital part of Iowa’s future. Kurt Hora, ICGA’s President from Washington, says, “This meeting reaffirmed that our highest priority is ethanol and our support of a strong Renewable Fuel Standard ensuring that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency follows the renewable volume obligation annual targets set by Congress.”  He concluded saying, “It was evident our farmers believe in the continued investment in on farm conservation to protect Iowa’s water quality.” ISGA will release its 2017 state and federal policy priorities in December based on the discussions held at the summit.
