IALF Offering Free Copy Of Children’s Book To Iowa Schools

The Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation is offering students and teachers a free copy of the new, non-fiction book by children’s author, Katie Olthoff, titled “My Family’s Beef Farm.” The story follows 10-year-old Cecelia, who lives on her family’s beef cattle farm in Iowa. Cecelia takes readers on a tour of the farm and discusses how they care for livestock and raise safe, nutritious beef. The book, written at a third-grade level, has supplemental text that provides additional background information for more advanced readers. This is the second book in a series by Olthoff, who is a former teacher and understands the importance of having high-quality, relevant, non-fiction books for students. Olthoff lives on a working turkey farm in central Iowa with her husband and family. Her first book detailed how turkeys were raised on their family farm. She currently works for the Iowa Cattleman’s Association as their director of communications. Copies of the book are being made available to all Iowa elementary schools and additional copies are available on request. For further information, email info@iowaagliteracy.org.
