The Iowa State Fair will run from Thursday, Aug. 11 through Sunday, Aug. 21, and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Iowa’s Healthiest State Initiative are teaming up for a walking tour of historic fairground sites. All Iowans are invited to join Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds, other state officials and leaders from the Healthiest State Initiative at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, for the walking tour. The event is free to the public, but does require regular fair admission. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Iowa and fair history while improving both mental and physical well-being through physical activity, said Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs Director, Mary Cownie. Participants will meet at the Administrative Building on the Grand Concourse for a brief welcome prior to the walk, which will conclude at the Oman Family Youth Inn in time for the fair’s opening ceremonies.
