A dangerous car chase ended near Adair after Guthrie Country Sheriff’s Office deputies deployed stop strips to prevent the pursuit from continuing. At approximately 9:55 p.m., an Iowa State Patrol trooper attempted to stop a 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer with Oklahoma plates heading eastbound on Interstate 80 for speeding and no taillights. The driver pulled over onto the Wiota exit at mile marker 64. After stopping, the driver sped off down the interstate attempting to elude the trooper. The Iowa State Patrol reports the vehicle reaching speeds of 130 miles per hour during the pursuit. The driver eventually exited the interstate at mile marker 74, then headed eastbound on White Pole Road northeast of Adair. Guthrie County deputies were in position and stopped the vehicle by using spiked stop strips. The driver pulled over when the tired deflated, and two individuals fled on foot. A Guthrie County deputy took 19-year-old Demetric Thomas of Atlanta, Ga. into custody. The driver of the vehicle was tracked by several K9 units before losing the trail. Thomas was charged with interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor, and is not cooperating with authorities. The driver of the vehicle is not known at this time. An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
