Greene Co. Deputies busy last week; respond to multiple accidents

On Thursday, January 21, two Greene County Deputies responded to the scene of a single vehicle accident at the Raccoon River Bridge west of Jefferson. At 8:41 am authorities arrived at 237th Street, also known as old Highway 30, to find a 2006 Hyundai Accent which had struck the river bridge. The driver, Beth Leppegard, told deputies that she had been east bound when she lost control and struck the bridge’s guard rail. Leppegard was not injured in the accident, but was issued a citation for failure to maintain control. The Hyundai sustained an estimated $6,000 in damages.

On Saturday, January 22, a deputy was dispatched to the corner of Highway 25 and 290th Street in response to a single vehicle accident. Events began when the driver of a Quick Oil Company truck failed to see a southbound 2001 Hyundai driven by Robert Smith of Jamaica. Smith took evasive action to avoid the truck, but ended up in the southwest ditch. No injuries were reported by either driver, but Smith’s vehicle did sustain extensive damage. The driver of the truck was issued a citation for failure to obey a stop sign.

Also on Saturday, January 22, a Greene County Deputy was dispatched to the scene of a single vehicle roll-over accident on Highway 30. About one mile east of Scranton 61 year-old Dan Kratoska of Carroll lost control of his vehicle due to icy conditions. The 2005 ford Ranger pickup entered the north ditch and rolled multiple times. Amazingly, no injuries were reported following the crash. Damages to Kratoska’s pickup was estimated at $3,000.
