Grassley Raising Awareness Of Social Media Exploitation

Since 2012, there have been 44 documented incidents of nursing home workers posting photos of residents on social media, and three of these occurred in Iowa. Recently, Iowa Senator, Chuck Grassley, pursued solutions to this problem by penning a letter to Snapchat. In response, Snapchat has said that it is technically not feasible to routinely monitor user posts for problematic content. They added it is also unclear how many users Snapchat has terminated for problematic content. Grassley added that, “By all accounts, the vast majority of nursing home workers do their jobs well with respect for the people in their care. Still, there are occasional disturbing incidents, and the good news,” he added, “is that we are raising awareness that the problem exists and those in a position to prevent the problem are for the most part taking action.”
