Getting Through The Heat Of The Season Without Sweating The Cost

Just as we are sweating through the hottest period of the year so far, MidAmerican Energy is reaching out to give some helpful tips on how to manage cooling costs this summer. MidAmerican encourages everyone to get a Homecheck now to keep utility costs from rising with the temperatures, and they offer five money-saving tips. Consider using a programmable thermostat, but no matter what type you use, keep it set at 78 degrees or higher. Keep drapes and blinds closed on hot sunny days and consider using fans to supplement air conditioning. Raising your thermostat two degrees and using a ceiling fan can lower costs up to 14 percent over the season. Use heat generating appliances, such as ovens, dishwashers and clothes dryers, during the cooler times of day and make sure your air registers are not blocked by objects in the home and dust and vacuum them on a regular basis.
