Former Sioux City Bishop Names President Of U.S. Conference Of Bishops

The former leader of the Sioux City Diocese has been selected to lead the nation’s bishops after the U.S. Conference of Catholic bishops on Tuesday. Cardinal Daniel Nicholas DiNardo, of the Houston-Galveston Archdiocese, was elected to serve as president of the group. One of his main roles in that position is to lead the clergy in their relationship with president-elect Donald Trump. DiNardo became bishop of the diocese in 1998 after the retirement of his predecessor, Bishop Lawrence Soens. He relocated to Texas after serving six years as the bishop in Sioux City to become the archbishop of the diocese in Houston. José Gomez, Archbishop of the Los Angeles Archdiocese, was selected to serve as his second as vice-president.
