Final Stages Of The Dakota Access Pipeline Underway

The Calhoun County Board of Supervisors met this morning (Tuesday) to consider the application from Dakota Access Pipeline (D-A-P-L) to construct a pipeline through Calhoun County. Also known as the Bakken Pipeline, the 1,172 mile, 30-inch channel will stretch from the Bakken oilfields in North Dakota and pass through Iowa to reach oil facilities in Pakota, Ill. Chairman of the Calhoun County Board of Supervisors, Mike Cooper, elaborates on the application.

Calhoun County shares some drainage districts with adjacent counties. Cooper says they are working closely with them.

Sac, Pocahontas and Webster counties have already completed their coordination with Calhoun County, and only Buena Vista County is left to finish up with District 181. The pipeline is classified as a hazardous liquid pipeline, and Chairman Cooper says the board is doing everything possible to protect the county’s and residents’ interests during construction.

When completed, the pipeline will pass through 31 miles of Calhoun County and less than one-half mile of Sac County. The new transportation pipe is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2016.
