Family-Friendly Hawk Watch Scheduled For Saturday

Expert and novice bird watching enthusiasts will be joining naturalists and experts from five different organizations for a family-friendly High Trestle Hawk Watch on Saturday, Oct. 8. The hawk watch will take place at the High Trestle Bridge’s main viewing platform on the west side of the bridge and at the new shelter on the east side. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., binoculars and viewing scopes are available to participants who do not have their own as the group watches for raptors and 45 other species of birds during the peak hawk migration period. In years past, watchers have reported seeing up to eight different raptor species. The event will take place rain or shine and watchers can access the High Trestle Trail by walking or cycling from Madrid, Woodward or a small parking area ½ mile east of the trestle on QF lane, just south of Highway 210. For more information, call 515-432-2823 ext. 104.
