Ernst Says Obama Administration Is Not Developing Strategies To Counter Social Media Use By Terrorists

U.S. Senator Joni Ernst has issued a statement expressing her disappointment in the current administration’s lack of progress in the efforts to counter violent extremism and their continued failure to release a comprehensive strategy to counter terrorists’ use of social media. “It is shocking that after multiple attacks on U.S. soil, the Obama administration appears to be at the very beginning stages of a coordinated effort to counter violent extremism,” Ernst said. She added it is, quite frankly, unacceptable that the basic initial tasks of cataloging, researching and identification of initiatives have yet to be completed. She says The Combat Terrorist Use of Social Media Act requires the president to prepare a report on terrorists’ and their organizations’ use of social media and an evaluation of the government efforts to combat such use. She said he also needs to draft a comprehensive strategy to counter their use of social media.
