Elk Run Water Quality Initiative Hosts Workshop In Breda

Cover crop experts from Practical Farmers of Iowa and the Natural Resources Conservation Service will be demonstrating to farmers and landowners how cover crops improve soil health and provide forage for livestock while improving water quality at the Elk Run Water Quality Initiative Workshop on Wednesday, March 30. Attendees will have the opportunity to plan future cover crop applications on their farms, which will be available at reduced cost through project cost-share. Tours of local fields will conclude the presentation. The Elk Run Water Quality Initiative provides farmers opportunities to learn about and implement practices that can address nutrient losses on their farms, said Diane Ercse, the Iowa Soybean watershed coordinator. The workshop and tours will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., beginning at the Legion Hall on Main Street in Breda. Lunch will be provided courtesy of the Iowa Cattleman’s Association. RSVPs are requested by Friday, March 25 and can be done through the contact points found below.
