Dr. Margaret Vitiritto is the newest member of the Stewart Memorial Community Hospital provider team and has joined the medical providers in Lake City and Gowrie. Vitiritto, who believes family medicine is about treating the whole person and the family, says she chose SMCH because she wants to be an active part of the community and challenge herself professionally. Dr. Vitiritto is an Iowa native and earned her bachelor degree in religious studies and political science at the University of Arizona and went on to earn her juris doctor degree from Drake University School of Law. She practiced law in Arizona, but was always interested in medicine and pursued that degree, achieving her doctor of osteopathic medicine from Des Moines University. Dr. Vitiritto then completed her residency at the Mercy Family Medicine Residency Program. She has practiced at Mercy Clinics in Des Moines where she enjoyed the variety and challenge that family medicine brings. She has also worked with the Mercy Weight Loss and Nutrition Center. Dr. Vitiritto and her husband, Al, have a two year old daughter and are excited to raise her in a friendly, small town.
