DNR Encourages Youth Conservation Through Trees For Kids

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has always promoted conservation in the state, and they are now reaching out to youth to encourage kids to become engaged in conservation practices. Through the DNR’s Trees for Kids program, schools and communities may order a free packet of 200-bare-root seedlings for youth to plant in their school or town outdoor spaces. Each packet contains 50 samples of the four species chosen by the DNR. Orders are delivered in late April or early May, and the young trees have seen use in Earth Day celebrations. The deadline to order is April 1, 2017, and orders are filled on a first-come, first-served basis until 200 orders are submitted.
