DMACC To Host First Learning, Engineering, Analysis and Design (LEAD) Competition In Boone

Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) and Parametric Studios have partnered to host the first Learning, Engineering, Analysis and Design (LEAD) competition at the DMACC Boone campus on Feb. 18, 2017. This competition will bring together 3-D engineering and the importance of team building into one competition according to Arts and Sciences Associate Dean for DMACC, Kari Hensen. “DMACC is excited to host the inaugural LEAD competition and play a role in developing future STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) leaders,” she said. The contest is open to high school students in grades nine through 12, in teams of three to five individuals. The teams will be given access to Parametric Studio’s DaVinCI Flight software to use the virtual 3-D design, gaming, simulation and rapid prototyping for aerospace engineering. They will design and produce an aircraft to present at the competition. On Feb. 18, teams will provide flight demonstrations and be judged on flight performance, design, construction and other aspects of their project. The winner will be announced March 6. The registration fee is $300 per team and the deadline is Jan. 2, 2017. DMACC will be providing up to 15 scholarships to cover entry for teams with financial need.
