The Great Plains Region of Wells Fargo has donated $25,000 to Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) to be used in support of the Summer Youth Employment Program at the Evelyn K. Davis Center and the Mark Pearson FFA Scholarship at the DMACC Foundation. The Pearson scholarship is in honor of long-time farm news broadcaster Mark Pearson who died in 2014 at the age of 54 and offers a full tuition grant to those who have served as president of their local FFA chapter during their senior year in high school. Students attending any of DMACC’s six campuses or learning centers are eligible to apply for the scholarship and can enroll in any degree program at DMACC. They must maintain at minimum a 2.5 grade point average. To date, 23 students have received the Pearson FFA scholarship. The Summer Youth Employment Program serves youth from 14 to 21 and offers participants the chance to learn life skills, job training and financial literacy while receiving career guidance, employment experiences and social growth opportunities.
