DMACC Hosting Working With Victims Of Violence Conference

The Continuing Education and Criminal Justice Departments of Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) will be offering a “Working with Victims of Violence” public safety conference on Thursday, Sept. 15 in the FFA Enrichment Center on the Ankeny Campus. The conference is designed to provide team learning and the consideration of the forensic implications on the street, in the healthcare setting and in the courtroom. Topics to be discussed include human trafficking, emerging forensic practices and interviewing children. Professionals with expertise in these areas that will be speaking at the conference include: retired Polk County Attorney, Steve Foritano; Jeremy Sprague of the Des Moines Police Department; Agent Michael Wyatt, a retired FBI investigator; Dorothy’s House Executive Director, Kellie Markey; and Assistant Polk County Attorney, Nan Horvat. Nursing and EMS continue education units (CEUs) will be earned at this conference. Registration can be done online or by phone through contact points included with this story on our website. Registration for non-DMACC students is $90. DMACC students and faculty can register for $25.
