Deputy And Carroll County Sheriff Candidate Bill Croghan Passes Away

Carroll County Deputy and Democratic candidate for Carroll County Sheriff, William “Bill” Croghan lost his battle with cancer, passing away yesterday (Monday) at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Croghan, who was raised on a farm near Manning, spent 43 years in law enforcement in Carroll County, working as a Carroll Police officer, attaining the rank of Captain, and joining the Sheriff’s Office in 1997. Croghan had a passion for serving people, and was proud he had so many years doing a job he loved. With the general election only one week from today, Carroll County Auditor, Kourtney Irlbeck, said Croghan’s name will remain on the ballot and there may need to be steps taken afterward if Croghan was to win the election on Nov. 8.

Irlbeck said it would take a petition of 150 signatures presented to the Board of Supervisors to bring about that special election.

Irlbeck said they were sorry to hear of Croghan’s passing and added this is a very sad situation.

Funeral arrangements for 64-year-old Bill Croghan of Templeton are pending at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. He is survived by his wife of over 44 years, Virginia “Gin” (Wieland), their three children, Steve, Sherry and Shannon, and seven grandchildren.
