Democratic Congressional Candidate Challenges King’s Immigration Policy Proposal

Kim Weaver, a Democrat from Sheldon, is running for Congress, taking on Republican incumbent, Steve King in the fourth district. She says that one of the most important issues in this election is immigration, and that King’s proposed policy lacks compassion and common sense, and if enacted, would result in an estimated 145 percent increase to the cost of farm labor through mass deportations. She says she has a plan to simplify the work visa process that adjusts the status of immigrants currently living and working in the United States, making all undocumented workers tax and social security contributors. She is also proposing policies that allow immigrants that are not currently in the U.S. to apply for and attain legal status and creating pathways for those actively working to attain citizenship. She said her plan welcomes immigrants who are currently making positive contributions to our economy and identifies and punishes those who are not. This, she added, is a strategy that benefits the quality of life for all Americans.
