Cost Of Traditional Thanksgiving Meal Remains A Bargain

The cost of everything seems to be rising rapidly these days, but the 31st annual American Farm Bureau Federation’s (AFBF) Thanksgiving Dinner Price Survey, shows that a holiday meal this year will come in at just under $5 a serving. For a family of 10, this represents a 24 cent decrease from last year. “Prices for turkey spiked last year because turkey farmers were hit hard by the Avian Flu virus, which devastated flocks and reduced fresh and frozen turkey stocks nationally,” said IFBF Director of Research and Commodity Services, Dave Miller. “In addition to turkey, ham is also quite a bargain this time of year since inventory is robust nationwide,” Miller added. The survey shopping list includes the classic staples to create a meal of turkey and cranberries, sweet potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, pumpkin pie with whipped cream as well as coffee and milk.
