City Of Carroll Conducting In-Depth Traffic Signal Study At Court And Adams Streets

Just a little over a week ago, the City of Carroll took the first steps in conducting a traffic study to determine whether traffic signals at the intersections of Highway 30 and Adams and Court Streets should remain in place or be deactivated completely. Director of Public Works, Randy Krauel, said the multi-step detailed study, which follows the requirements of the federal manual and design criteria by the Institute of Traffic Engineers, begins with the posting of signs letting drivers know that the signals are under study.

At the end of a 30-day period, June 22, the city will do everything that accompanies the deactivation of the signals.

The signals will remain deactivated for an additional 90 days, until Sept. 20. At the end of the study, the Carroll City Council will consider permanent removal of the signals.

Krauel said based on the empirical studies, they believe the delay time overall for the use of the system will noticeably decrease. However, there will probably be sacrifices, most likely on the side streets since the majority of traffic is along Highway 30. This is one of the things they will discover through the study. Krauel added that the intersections at Adams and Court Streets will not have protected cross walks. Crossing will be permitted, but it is not protected or marked.
