Changes Made To Carroll Youth Triathlon

The Carroll third annual Youth Triathlon will be held on Saturday, May 28, at the Carroll Rec Center. The inaugural year of the race saw 102 participants, but there was a fall-off last year, in part because of adverse weather conditions. According to Recreation Superintendent, McKenzie Kiger, this has brought organizers to make a change in the format.

The event is open to kids from six to 14 years old, who are broken into three age groups: six to eight; nine to 11; and 12 to 14. Kiger said they are consistently reviewing the previous events to make adjustments and improvements, and they are implementing a new procedure for the youngest age group this year.

Parks and Recreation Director, Jack Wardell says they have seen participants from as far away as Des Moines and Omaha because the kids really enjoy the race. There is no need for special equipment, the kids just need a bike, tennis shoes and swim trunks. Everything is also condensed into a controlled area near the Rec Center once the kids are done with the swimming portion.

Registration is open from now until the day of the event at a cost of only $10 per child. This includes a t-shirt and gift bag. Registration forms can be found at the Carroll Rec Center and at www.carrollreccenter.com. Organizers will also be delivering registration forms to area schools.
