CCSD to discuss installation of HD cameras in school’s bus fleet

Earlier this year members of the Carroll Education Support Association (CESA) brought forth a unique proposal to the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) during their contract negotiation. The group asked to have cameras installed in the school buses for the safety of both students and drivers. While not included in the mandatory bargaining agreement, which was approved in March, members of the school board did invest in a couple of H-D cameras for a trial run. Carroll’s Superintendent Rob Cordes says originally he wasn’t a fan, but the high quality video has made him a believer.

Cordes adds that if a bus costs around $80,000 it’s a pretty good idea to put a $4,000 camera in it as an investment though he admits he probably wouldn’t have said that a few months ago. Cordes made his remarks at the board’s meeting in March, and since then the test-cameras have been rolling in two of the district’s buses. On the agenda for their meeting this Monday, May 16, the school board will review footage from those same cameras and will discuss the possibilities of outfitting more of the district’s thirty-bus-fleet with the technology.
