CCSD Continually Looking For Ways To Develop Staff

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) prides itself on its instructors and has dedicated more days of professional development into its schedule. Teachers are divided into Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to ensure time is used efficiently during those days. The Teacher Quality Committee, made up of staff from the district, helps set goals for teacher development. One idea from the committee is to have all staff trained during a PLC Conference. Middle School Principal, Jerry Raymond, believes this training is critical to staff growth.

About half of CCSD’s staff has received some form of PLC training. These conferences take place all over the country and feature guest speakers. The cost to attend is about $669 per head if registering as a group. PLC Conference attendee and CMS Dean of Student, Cory Heiman, was impressed with those speakers during his last visit.

It is still early in discussion about making Carroll’s teachers even better, and no decisions have been made yet for their plans. The district sets aside funds every year to help with teacher development and conference fees. This year’s budget amounts to $142,931.
