CCSD Board Considers Superintendent Sharing With Ar-We-Va

At a special meeting of the Carroll Community School District Board of Education on Tuesday, May 3, Board President, Duane Horsley, said he had been approached by the President of the Ar-We-Va School Board, Sara Skinner, about the possibility of superintendent sharing. Horsley said the board needed to discuss the amount of days for sharing and to consider what it would take to make this a good fit for both districts, if it is feasible. CCSD Superintendent, Rob Cordes, said time considerations are tight.

There is also the advantage to share the costs of the superintendent’s salary, Cordes said, but realistically, if they are looking for more than the minimum amount allowed under operational sharing of 20 percent, he is probably not the person for the job. Board member, Jen Munson, voiced additional concerns about the time Ar-We-Va needs as the current superintendent, Kurt Brosomle, is also a principal at the school and able to jump in and help out in many areas when shortages occurred. She said it really does need to be a match of Ar-We-Va’s needs and wants and to find the best fit, not just looking at the financial benefits. Cordes said he believes Ar-We-Va has three different options.

Brad Jorgensen voiced his opinion that they really need to consider this; but stressed more thought would have to be put into what would need to come off of Cordes’ plate to make the situation work and who would be responsible for taking over those duties. The board also addressed the possibility of burnout and Cordes being caught between two boards, particularly on issues involving both districts.

In the end, all board members agreed there were many things that needed to be explored. Horsley will be reaching out to Skinner and letting her know that 20 percent would be the maximum commitment and to request more details on the responsibilities and expectations. Ar-We-Va Superintendent, Kurt Brosamle, announced his resignation effective July 1, at the last board meeting on April 20. He has accepted the superintendent position for the Boyer Valley Community School District.
