Carroll Supervisors Discuss Lack Of Proposals For Mallard View Building

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors’ Chair, Neil Bock, opened a public hearing at this morning’s (Monday’s) meeting to review the Request for Proposals (RFPs) received for parties interested in purchasing the Mallard View residential facility on Mahogany Ave. north of Carroll. The only thing he had to announce, he said, is that no proposals were received. The question now before the board is what direction do they go from here? Mallard View had moved out their final client early in December, and will be completely vacating the property by the end of this month. Gene Meiners said no matter what happens, they need to be proactive with protecting the facility.

Neil Bock said that one person had requested blueprints and three others asked for tours of the building, and all of the supervisors were surprised that no proposals had been received. Bock said he would be interested in reaching out to businesses that operate nursing homes throughout the state and suggested that it may also be well suited to use as a transitional space. Mark Beardmore said that this is now becoming a pressing concern. Dean Schettler thought there may have been other reasons for the lack of bidders.

Beardmore cautioned that the new board for 2017 has a big question in front of them.

Supervisors agreed that they need to leave the power and heat on and to shut off the water to forestall any issues with broken pipes. They also suggested that the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office make routine patrols at the location. The board will be picking up the discussion on the next steps in the process at their next meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 27, scheduled for 9 a.m. in the supervisor’s room in the Carroll County Courthouse.
