Carroll resident surrenders to authorities after threatening careworker

A home healthcare nurse called 911 Thursday, May 12 after her client, 71-year-old Ronald Howard, had became agitated, threatened her and pulled a handgun out, placing it to his head. At approximately 4:25 p.m. yesterday afternoon, the Carroll Police Department, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol and Carroll County Emergency Medical  Services reported to the scene at 1321 N. Grant Road in Carroll. The street was closed off for approximately 40 minutes while a 911 dispatcher talked Howard into surrendering. Howard then came out of the residence without any weapons on his own. He was taken into custody with no shots fired and no injuries. Howard was transported to the Carroll County Jail and charged with assault for the threats he made to the home healthcare nurse.
